Preface

Samsung has just released it's flagship mobile, the S5, at MWC 2014 and already there is much hullabulla going on about at many technology blogs and numerous websites around the perceived specifications and the ones that were announced by Samsung. Accordingly many people and various industry pundits all have been let down by the announced specs that Samsung obviously revealed. Now, let's take a look at what the rumors were all about and how much of it came true to the letter.

What We Thought Would Happen?

As is after the release of every flagship mobile phone that Samsung has released over the past two-three years, people, technology buffs/blogs, websites, bloggers and even the general public (the aam aadmi) have come to expect and overreact to what the next flagship would be.

There are various rumors that are propagated and many a spec are released into the wild by various sources (some legit, some not) and even by Samsung themselves on what the obvious specifications of the new flagship device would be like. It all remains to be seen how much of the rumored specs were real and came to be about in the hardware.

Rumored Specifications

Screen: 5.2-inch, 2560 x 1440 resolution
Processor: Snapdragon 800/Exynos 5 Octa processor
Ram: 2GB / 3GB
Camera: 16-megapixel
Storage: 32 GB and 64 GB
Battery: 3200 mAh
Security: fingerprint scanner

So, the these were some of the prime specifications that were mentioned on various technology blogs and pundits had mentioned and were having high hopes that they would be right and Samsung would fulfill their self-obsessed righteous needs to be proved right.

What Really Happened?

In all of this, MWC 2014 has come to pass and many vendors and hardware service providers have announced their products for all of us to see and drool on, but what the world was waiting on was for Samsung to announce its flagship Galaxy S5. Let's see the specifications of the phone and see why people are so disappointed on the announcement and release of Galaxy S5.

Actual Specifications

Screen:     5.1 inches Super AMOLED, Full HD (1920 x 1080), 432 ppi
Processor: 2.5 Ghz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801, Adreno 330 GPU or                  2.1Ghz Octa-core Exynos, unspecified GPU in Exynos SoC
RAM:        2 GB
Camera:   16 MP rear LED flash, 2.1 MP front
Battery:    2800 mAh
Storage:   16/32 GB, expandable

So, for the most part, #Samsung was able to meet the requirements except for the RAM and battery. I can understand that the RAM being one-GB less is nothing to be disappointed about, but the battery is one side of the equation even where I am a bit disappointed as it would mean backup in the ranges of 7-8 hours at the most.

The End-Result

So, what do we do now when all things have been said and done and Samsung has launched it's flagship #Galaxy S5?

Well, for the most part, we can't do anything, but buy the product based on the various how-to and review videos that are going to go up on #YouTube and other video-sharing sites.

My recommendation would be, if you have the money and don't mind the obvious battery capacity and you aren't going to use for full-time video watching, full-time browsing, continuous LTE connectivity, then it would be a good buy.
